The Glue of the Family – Meet Mitchell
Employee Spotlight is a new series intended to share a glimpse into our team. Our hope is that you can get to know us a little better.
MITCHELL’S ROLE AT BLAST IT CLEAN
Mitchell’s been a great addition to the Blast It Clean team since October. He’s always ready to jump in and help with whatever comes our way, and we’re excited to keep watching him grow with us.
“Since Mitchell has joined the team at Blast It Clean, he has shown that he has been a reliable source of leadership, hard work, and determination. These are the core values of the team. Needless to say, Mitchell is a part of the core.”
— Daryl, Shop Manager

WHAT FIRST GOT YOU INTERESTED IN THIS KIND OF WORK?
It’s really what I’ve done all my life. My uncle owns a construction company, so I’ve done painting and remodeling off and on. I remember being told about sandblasting and found it unique, and I definitely wanted to try it.
WHAT SKILLS ARE MOST IMPORTANT FOR SUCCESS IN YOUR ROLE?
It would be to stay motivated. I always try to stay busy and be a hard worker. Show up to work and be on time.
WHAT’S THE TOUGHEST PART OF YOUR JOB—AND HOW DO YOU HANDLE IT?
Being away from my daughter. The traveling makes it hard, but I do like it and get to see places I’ve never seen before. But being away from my kid is tough.
HAVE YOU HAD A “PROUD MOMENT” ON THE JOB WHERE YOU STOOD BACK AND SAID, “YEAH, WE NAILED THAT”?
Absolutely. The job we did in O’fallon, MO where we had 16 tanks to blast and paint. I think the biggest one was over 120 ft tall and we were high up on scaffolding which was interesting, I liked it. When we finished, I was like, “we did that.”

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP, AND HOW DID THAT SHAPE WHO YOU ARE TODAY?
I grew up in Excelsior Springs, it’s been a tough journey. I’ve gone through some rough times, but I feel like I’m at my best time right now.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS? KIDS? TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY!
I have one daughter, and she’s 22 now. That’s my world right there. My dad has passed away, he was the glue that held the family together. Most of my family sees me as that same role now, so I try to upkeep it and try to do family-oriented things.
WHO’S SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE THAT INSPIRED YOUR WORK ETHIC?
It would be my uncle. Like I said, I’ve worked for him all my life off and on, and he’s always been there for me. He’s never turned his back on me even after 15 years of not working with him. He was still there to welcome me, show me the ropes, and teach me new things. He’s always had the utmost hope for me.

ANY HOBBIES, CREATIVE OUTLETS, OR SIDE HUSTLES?
What a lot of people don’t know is, I’m a barber. I started cutting hair in 2008. I slowly started dabbling in it, and started getting better and better. I eventually got into a barber position and started cutting hair.
WHAT’S SOMETHING SMALL THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOUR DAY BETTER?
Waking up every morning and seeing a text on my phone, “good morning Dad.” That’s what gets my day going right there. It’s every morning, I try to beat her to it, but usually texts me first.
WHAT’S YOUR DREAM VACATION SPOT?
I don’t know, I guess somewhere I’ve never been. I’ve never been to the beach or seen the ocean, I’d love to go to one of the coasts where it’s nice and sunny.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN YOUR FUTURE WITH BLAST IT CLEAN?
Working my way up into a higher leadership position and just being able to grow within the company and show my worth. Try to learn something new everyday.
